Windmill Jan
Among the crops, on a hill, proudly stands the wooden windmill Jan, supposedly one of the last windmills that once inhabited the windy Sokółka Hills. The windmill is set on stone foundations – made of field stones – in the shape of a truncated cone, which was the rotating support of the mill. A pole is built into its axis, reaching the second floor, supporting the entire structure. The mechanical bearing was cooled by air flowing from the windward side. As you can see, Jan’s design is well-thought-out and uses nature for its functioning.
Jan was born around 1963, so he can easily be considered a youngster among windmills. If you want to visit Jan, choose the sowing season, when storks come to the area in large numbers.
